The largest county in New Jersey at a total area of 915.40 square miles (2,370.9 km2). Home to many outstanding ocean beach resorts ("The Jersey Shore") with pure white sands. Features include Six Flags Great Adventure amusement park & safari, extensive pine forests of the preserved Jersey Pinelands reserve, swamps, and cedar water streams and rivers. The county seat is Toms River, an incorporated township.
The entire county is essentially flat and dominated by the Cohansey Formation of sand, gravel and clays. The highest points are 230 feet (70 meters) in altitude.
