ⓘ 'Tourmaline' Formula: AD3G6 (T6O18)(BO3)3X3Z Habit: prisms, grains Colour: black, brown, blue, green, yellow Description: "The XRD pattern shows the most resemblance to that of the dravite variety (magnesium tourmaline) but the colour of the grains shows that part of the Mg is certainly replaced by Fe. A few grains were also studied using a scanning electron microscope. This only shows that the original shape of the grains is well-preserved because the typical striations parallel to the c axis are still visible. These grains are embedded in a matrix and have undergone little transport as shown by the microscopic research."
