A PRIVATE, now defunct old stone and tile quarry, where their main interest was large solid blocks of Basalt, much of which is well silicified at this Quarry due to a nearby Andesitic intrusion. I visited this quarry numerous times in the spring, seeing it was heavily overgrown, abandoned, remote, and unmarked. On my 4th or so visit, a nice gentleman came up on an A.T.V. and said that his family owned the quarry, and that due to local tweakers misusing the land and littering they have had to close it off to the public, although he was sympathetic and understanding to my hopes to learn about the geology. The top tier of the quarry is mostly very light colored Andesite, that is Ti and Mg rich, allowing for a unique assemblage of micro minerals to form in clefts at the top of the intrusion where it crops out at the peak of the mountain.
