KΓΆppen climate type:
Historic gold mine.
Located on the northern side of Sunbeam Creek. Neighbouring leases include Dunedin, Norfolk, Day Dawn, and Watchman.
The lodes trends east north-east, and dips steeply south-east, the quartz showing crustiform and banding. The host is andesite flows, and dacite breccia. There is a great mass of quartz at the junction of the 12 foot wide Sunbeam Reef, and two Footwall branches. From the shallow near surface workings, alot of gold was obtained.
In 1895, the Tararu Creek Gold Mines Ltd was formed in London to take over the Norfolk, Dunedin, Excelsior and Sunbeam leases.
