Dines (1956) records this as having been most active from around 1830 to around 1869 and for the latter years worked in conjunction with neighbouring Wheal Arthur though the setts were demarcated by a crosscourse that ran close to the road between the two.
The engine house and chimney stand to the west of the railway whilst the tip abuts the eastern embankment of the railway and extends away from a shaft in a series of radiating finger dumps. These dumps are partly overgrown and show evidence of having been excavated for hardcore. Pyrite, chalcopyrite and arsenopyrite are relatively abundant with some sphalerite and siderite.
The shaft is poorly fenced with a cone of waste around it, though in places the waste overhangs the open shaft and it is highly inadvisable to approach the edge as the shaft is very deep, having originally reached 100 fathoms according to Dines, and falling water can be heard echoing below.
Some outputs recorded by Dines are: 1855-69 8160 tons copper ore, 1876 10 tons pyrite.
