A former small surface and underground Cu-Ag-Pb-Au-Mn-Baryte mine located in East-central sec. 33, T.14S., R.13E. (Cat Mountain 7.5 minute topo map). Owned by Pelligren.
Mineralization is copper oxides, cerussite, acanthite, chlorargyrite, barite, hematite, and jasper in a narrow fissure vein of massive manganiferous siderite in Cretaceous Cat Mountain Rhyolite. Ore control was bedding (Cutaxitic structure). Alteraton was argillitic and silicification. The ore body is 110 meters long, 1.22 meters wide and 2 meters thick and has a strike of approximate NE and dip of a few degrees to the NW.
The vein is subparallel to the cutaxitic structurem in welded tuff host rock but in detail contacts are cross-cutting. Wallrock weakly silicified to weakly argillized. The vein is sheeted, locally containing stringers of purplish-red to dark brown (heavily limonitic), weakly silicified wall rock. Locally, vein material cements wall rock breccia. 30 meters SE of the central part of the vein is a shallow prospect shaft with minor black calcite on the dump. The vein in this pit is probably another vein about 10 meters below the main vein.
Workings include 7 tunnels, one tunnel plus perpendicular cut, and 2 prospect pits. The maximum exposed length of the vein is approximately 100-110 meters, but prospect pits continue both to the E and W of the vein, along the hillside, for 200 meters. Sporadic production occurred in 1920-1921, 1923, and 1937-1938. Total production has been some 150 tons of ore averaging about 1% Cu, 0.3% Pb, 10 oz. Ag/T, and 0.1 oz. Au/T.
