The Boss – Bixby ore deposit is one of several iron deposits associated with the Precambrian igneouus rocks of then St. Francois mountains of southeastern Missouri. Boss – Bixby was discovered in 1956 by drilling a blind magnetic anomoly under Paleozoic cover. The deposit, located about 3 miles west of the Magmont lead-zinc mine on the Viburnum Trend, was never developed and is known only from drilling.

The Boss – Bixby ore deposit is localized near the margin of a ring-like syenite intrusion known as the Boss Plutonic complex. Ore minerals are disseminated in the syenite, in adjacent rhyolites and in associated fractures and breccias. Boss – Bixby is different than other iron deposits in the region in being rich in titanium, containing very little apatite (or rare earth elements), and including a large amount of copper. The copper-rich portions of the ore deposit occur as lenses within the iron ore. Day, et al (2001) give the copper ore reserve as approximately 40 mt at 0.8%. Covers Dent and Iron Counties.
