Fengtien nephrite belt, Hualien Co., Taiwan Province, Taiwan

Diopside
Fengtien nephrite belt, Hualien Co., Taiwan Province, Taiwan
A belt of nephrite deposits, about 10 km long and 3 km wide, extending from Chiakangchi in the south to Paipoaochi in the north. Although nephrite occurrences are known over a north-south distance of 60 km, production has been mainly from the Fengtien area.

Nephrite occurs in the hanging walls and footwalls of serpentinite bodies from which it was formed by metasomatism. The serpentinite bodies are associated with diopside fels and are hosted in metasedimentary rocks.
