Obsidian outcrop and rhyolite with gas phase minerals.

"The Whangamata Fault scarp section, varying from 20 to 65 m in height, exposes five textural units: finely vesicular pumice; obsidian(OBS); a pocket of explosion breccia within the OBS unit; a spherulitic transitional unit; and a central crystalline rhyolite layer." (Stevenson, 1994)
