Iron ore deposits in the area of Częstochowa occur along the western slope of the Jurassic Upland. They extend from Zawiercie to Wieluń. The region covers the area of about 800 km2.From the west the iron ore deposits project directly to the surface while towards the east they get submerged in limestone formations. The main and basic method to use the ores was to smelt iron.
