Quarrying area in dolomitized limestones of Carboniferous age, quarried for cement industry, located on the right bank of River Oka in front of the city of Kolomna.
The quarrying area, approx. 100 km from Moscow by car or train (southern direction), is known under different names: Shchurovsky Quarries, Shchurovsky Quarry, or Prioksky Quarry are more geographically precise; Golutvinskie Quarries, Golutvinsky Quarry, or simply "Golutvin" are more traditional in use and originate from Golutvin (aka Golutvino or Stantsiya Golutvin), the nearest railroad station situated inside the city limits of Kolomna.
Chalcedony concretions and agates, consisting of blue, black, grey, brown, and yellow bands with tiny quartz crystals in the central part of the amygdales, can be found inside the limestone blocks.
Shells of brachiopods and ammonites mineralised in pyrite, calcite, chalcedony, and clay quite frequently occur in limestone blocks covered by black-dark grey clay (Jurassic). Mineral substituted trilobites, sea lilies, and corals are also found.
