The Yilgarn Star Gold Mine is approximately 20 kilometres south-east of Marvel Loch, and 5 kilometres east of the Great Victoria Mine, opposite which is the access road. The mine is a large narrow west north-west to east south-east trending open pit, with apparently underground workings. The mullock plateau is directly north of the pit.
Located in the brittle-ductile Yilgarn Star Shear Zone, at the contact with mafic-ultramafic sequence, and a metasedimentary sequence on the south south-east flank of the Ghooli Dome. The Footwall contains high Mg basalts, and Hanging Wall argillic and arenitic metasedimentary rocks.
No old historic information could be found for the Yilgarn Star name, and it may have been a modern discovery. Open pit mining began in 1991 by Gascoyne Gold Mines NL. Underground mining commenced in 1995. The mine produced over 100 000 ounces of gold per annum. Sons of Gwalia Ltd took over Gascoyne in 1996. When this company folded, St Barbara took over the leases in the area, then in 2013 Hanking Mining Ltd. The mine has not been active for many years.
