Gossan Hill is located approximately 6.4 kilometres north of the Lightning Ridge in the Braeside lead field.
It is a prominent ridge formed on a 12.1 metre wide fault zone striking at 325 degrees, in the Kylena Basalt. The fault zone comprises iron and manganese-stained siliceous breccia.
Two shafts (of depths 7 and 41.1 metres respectively) were sunk, 146 metres apart, on the outcrop of the fault breccia. Analyses of samples from the shafts returned negligible values of lead and silver. No recorded production.
