This large zinc-lead mine was was part of a cluster including the Blaine and Logan Mine and Expansion Level Mine that worked the same ore body. It worked first between 1890 and 1898 and then was reopened in 1942. Ore was mostly in pitch and flat structures in the Ordovician carbonate rocks of the Platteville, Decorah and Galena Formations.
