Hill in the southwest end of the Ludwig skarn area, referenced by its peak elevation on local topographic maps. It is between the Casting Copper and Douglas Hill Mines, or more precisely stops 10 and 11 in the field triplog by Einaudi (2000).
Geologically, the hill is primarily massive limestone and foliated marble of the Mason Valley limestone unit (TRl on Proffett and Dilles, 1984). The limestone and marble are primarily blue-grey to black, with the peak of the hill having been dolomitized to a fine-grained, buff-weathering dolomite with local pyrite +/- quartz veins. Most of the TRl unit to the northeast has been altered to and replaced by skarn and skarnoid, but this area is still limestone except along faults and stratigraphic contacts above and below.
This area has been called out as a locality because there are a variety of interesting minerals and relationships around the area that are not associated with either of the two mines. The mineral list is not complete.
