The Merritt Mines (Merritt 1 and Merritt 2 Sec. 33 T.47N. R.29W) were first opened by the Merritt Development Corporation as an underground mine in 1917. It produced ore sporadically from the mine and stockpiles until 1955. In addition to iron, the ore was very manganiferous. Metaigneous rocks were especially common in the mine. Specular hematite ore was also common
