Ref.: The Iron Mines of New Jersey (1910), Bayley: 11, 395-398; NJ State Geol. Annual Rpts.: (1855):201-206; (1868):578-582; (1873):44; (1879):55; (1880):107; (1883):107-109; (1884):86-87; (1885):100-101; (1886):148; (1890):61; (1891):245; (1896):327-328; Dana 6:767. A major New jersey iron mine located in magnetite ore just North of Dover. Started 1786 and closed 1896. Ore deposit was 4 veins, including: Northwestern; Dolan (Huff); Main or Teabo (avg. 6 ft. wide). Produced 336,000 tons of ore until June, 1880. Workings included open cuts (1,200 feet long, 800 feet long and 140 to 225 feet deep (1868)). 3 shafts on main vein. Workings were 2,800 feet SW-NE (1883) and later 3,500 feet and 1,400 feet deep (1896).
