A former Au-Ag-Cu-Zn occurrence/prospect located in sec. 27, T3N, R1W, SBM, about 6 km (3.5 miles) NNW of Fawnskin, on the E canyon wall of Greenlead Creek, on National Forest land. Discovered in 1876. The property is comprised of 15.28 patented (private) acres with one claim and a millsite. Owned & operated by William H. Chilner, III (100%), California (1990). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 or 100 meters (2 MRDS files).

NOTE: There are 3 USGS MRDS database files that apparently apply to this locality. File #10189574 presents discrepant geographic coordinate data placing this mine in sec. 27, T2N, R1W. This mine is clearly reflected on the topo map in the section & T&R values provided above, consistent with the data presented in the other 2 MRDS files.

Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in Furnace Formation limestone. The ore body strikes NW and dips SE at a thickness of 1.22 meters. The vein is 2 to 4 feet thick. Reported to contain free-milling Au with some sulfide ore. The S wall of the Garvey adit was reported by the owner in 1953 to contain streaks of a green mineral analyzed as silver bromide (bromargyrite). Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).

Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of a 400 foot shaft with levels at 50, 100, 200, 300 and 400 feet. The Garvey adit is 300 feet long in 1919. The old Garvey adit was cleaned out and reopened to a length of 370 feet in 1953. Drifts were driven 370 feet S44E and then 40 feet S45W.

This locality is popular with fluorescent collectors for its multicolored fluorescent species. Please do not disturb the bats!
