Amygdaloidal andesitic volcanics. Politically belongs to Tokyo Prefecture, although it lies in the Pacific Ocean far south of Honshu Island (where the city of Tokyo itself is located), about 1,000 km SSE of Tokyo city. Type locality for the volcanic rock type "boninite". Nature protected area.
