A barely discernable track leads north from the Ragged Hills Mine, into rough desert mountain country. After the writer failed to find Devons Cut, he abandoned the enterprise to others more adventurous. Appears to be a minor deep north-south trench on top of the ridge. No access. Remote.
Devons Cut is located about 10 kilometres north-northwest of the Ragged Hills Mine.
Lead mineralisation is hosted by large parallel quartz veins (associated with faulting) that strike 325 degrees and dips 80-88 degrees northeast, in basalt and andesite of the Maddina Formation. The reef was worked over a strike length of 30 metres (although lead minerals are present over about 46 metres), and to a depth of 18.2 metres.
Galena, brochantite, cerussite, anglesite, rosasite, kaolinite, quartz, goethite, hematite, coronadite, plattnerite, malachite, chalcocite, caledonite, linarite, cinnabar, hemimorphite, otavite, chrysocolla, pyromorphite, covellite, hydrozincite, smithsonite, psilomelane, descloizite, mottramite and vanadinite have come from here.
Total production from the periods 1926-28 and 1955-56 is 34.5 tonnes of lead and 7.5 kilograms of silver.
