Miniera Acquaresi (incl. Enna Murta), Iglesias, Provincia del Sud Sardegna, Sardegna, Italia

Pb-Zn mine near the hamlet of Masua.

The mine includes includes Enna Murta deposit.

Vieille Montagne Zn-Pb mine since 1930 until the nineties. In 1857 a mining concession named Enna Murta was granted to the Italian and Spanish Mining Company for the exploitation of lenses of iron ores (hematite, limonite) embedded in limestone. These iron ores were later partly mined by Vieille Montagne. In the same area, the same Italian and Spanish Mining Company owned also the mining rights for the extraction of Zn-Pb ores (Acquaresi Mine), transferred in 1870 to the Gonnesa Mining Company Ltd. and later to Vieille Montagne.

The mining operation were carried out at various yards (San Giorgio, Campo Spini, Scalittas, and Sotto Scalittas) on various Zn-Pb orebodies (named Congo, Dadi, Garibaldi, Marx, Piga, Schiffini, and Thomas) embedded in limestone.

The mine was used for the disposal of waste flotation tailings from the Masua Mine between 1968 to 1985.
