Victoria Newer Volcanics extend over an area of c. 15000kmΒ² and include nearly 400 eruptive points (Nicholls & Joyce 1989). The lava sequences of the extensive plains are generally comparatively thin, normally less than 60 m, but the most prominent volcanic features are scoria cones, maars, tuff rings and major valley flows.

Formula: Zr(SiO4)
Description: Complete or near complete zircon crystals have been found ranging in size from 3mm to 12mm in diameter. Colours range from pale orange brown through to straw yellow, pale greenish yellow, white, colourless and dark brown. These crystals are not of gem quality as most crystals show a high degree of crazing and fracturing but are usually quite lustrous.
