Copper mine in far northern Arequipa Department, near Nazca (although Nazca itself is in neighbouring Ica department). Surrounding country rock, outside the mine, is the source of both the pink and blue "Andean opal" of commerce. The blue opal is opal coloured by chrysocolla inclusions. The "pink andean opal" is a special type of fibrous opal-CT, with about 10 – 40% palygorskite (Fritsch et al., 2004).
