Outcrop of the so-called "Malanaggio diorite" (a series of dioritic to granodioritic gneissic bodies which intrude the Pinerolo Graphitic Complex in the lower Chisone Valley).

The outcropping rock is a foliated, fine-grained dioritic gneiss displaying a secondary metamorphic assemblage of actinolite + biotite + chlorite + albite + zoisite + quartz, as well as rare relics of magmatic hornblende.

Zircon crystals are rather rich in uranium (461-650 ppm), their U-Pb age is 290 Β± 2 Ma, which is interpreted as the crystallisation time of the dioritic magma (Bussy & Cadoppi, 1996).
