Heading West along the dale, numerous workings and spoil tips can be seen on either side of Apedale beck. Many of these tend to be rather barren and devoid of minerals, others occasionally can be surprisingly rich in pickings, whilst there are other spoil tips comprised predominantly of dark shales. Interestingly within these spoil tips there are numerous septarian nodules and claystone blocks. When broken, these contain a host of interesting minerals such as Copper sulphides, Pyrite, Marcasite, Aragonite and Fluorescent Barite
