About 2.5 kilometres north-west of Rossland, British Columbia, on the west side of Red Mountain; Trail Creek Mining Division.

Summary and comments by Giles Peatfield:

The Red Mountain (Rossland) Mo deposits were exploited in several small pits. Occurrences of molybdenite-bearing skarn are located on the claims listed above. There are, in addition, some examples of veins with copper and iron sulfides, more like those mined in the main Rossland Camp, on the other side of Red Mountain. Most of the molybdenum mineralization was β€œ. . . molybdenite with very minor amounts of scheelite along fractures in a breccia complex composed mainly of hornfelsic siltstone.” (Fyles, 1984).
For details of geology and for production figures for the deposits, refer to the Minfile postings for the various properties.
Further comments regarding minerals reported:
β€œAmphibole”: HΓΆy and Dunne (2001, p. 63) reported amphibole from the Mountain View claim, but offered no specifics.
β€œCarbonate”: HΓΆy and Dunne (2001, p. 63) reported carbonate (ankerite or siderite) from the Mountain View claim.
β€œCobalt minerals”: Fyles (1974) reported cobalt minerals, but did not mention either cobaltite or erythrite, so these may be what he was referring to.
β€œDiopside”: HΓΆy and Dunne (2001) reported several occurrences of either diopside or hedenbergite-diopside, but gave little detailed information.
β€œEpidote”: Fyles (1984) and HΓΆy and Dunne (2001) reported several occurrences of β€œepidote” but gave no details of precise composition.
Galena & Sphalerite: Both galena and sphalerite were reported by McMillan (1962) in specimens said to be from the Giant Mine; this is only report of these minerals from the area. I have let them stand, but they should be regarded as tentative.
β€œGarnet”: Ray and Webster (1997) (reported in HΓΆy and Dunne (2001, p. 62) reported garnets from the Coxey claim as β€œgrossularite-andradite solid solutions.”
β€œHornblende”: Hornblende was reported by Fyles (1984), but he gave no precise information.
Plagioclase: HΓΆy and Dunne (2001, p. 63) reported plagioclase, possibly andesine, in skarn on the Novelty claim. No precise information was given.
β€œPyroxene”: Pyroxene was reported by Fyles (1984), but he gave no precise information.
Safflorite: McMillan (1962) described safflorite in a specimen from the Giant Mine. I can find no other reports of safflorite, and regard this report as questionable at best. I have not included it.
Tetradymite: This mineral was reported by Thompson (1949), β€œ. . . at the Jumbo Mine, Rossland, as a thin film of tetradymite and gold on monzonite; . . . .” This attribution was repeated in Berry and Thompson (1962), and by Traill (1970), but has not been independently reported. I have allowed it to stand, but it should be regarded as tentative.
Uraninite: Thorpe (1967, p. 15) mentioned uraninite from the area, and this was re-reported by Fyles (1984) and by Ray and Webster (1997), but there no independent sightings. However, HΓΆy and Dunne (2001, p. 63) described a sample from the Mountain View Mine with 3800 ppm uranium, and another with elevated values in lanthanum, cerium and neodymium . I have allowed uraninite to stand.
Wollastonite: The only report of wollastonite is by HΓΆy and Dunne (2001, p. 63), from the Mountain View Mine, which they report as questionable. I have not included it.
