Miemo, Montecatini Val di Cecina, Pisa, Toscana, Italia
Old Cu mine workings in the territory of the Miemo estate, SE of Miemo hamlet, on the W slope of Poggio della Mela (area known as Poggio della Faggeta), on the SW slope of Poggio dell'Acqua Bianca, where a gallery and the main shaft (see coordinates) were excavated in the period 1846-1853, and also at Botro al Bagno, Botro Berti, and near the so-called Sorgente Termale (thermal spring).
The cupriferous mineralization, mainly consisting of chalcopyrite, was hosted at the contact between serpentinite and basalts. Small outcrops of magnesite in association with chalcedony and greenish dolomite [this dolomite variety was named "miemite" by Klaproth (1802)] have been observed in serpentinite.
