Patterson Creek Mine


A tungsten mine on Patterson Creek above the town of Patterson.

The ore occurs as a zoned porphyry, with all the production of the mine coming from the outer zones.

The deposit was discovered around 1881, but was not developed much until 1900. The early work was done mainly for silver values associated with tetrahedrite.

By 1911 a mill had been installed and tungsten concentrates made from the abundant hΓΌbnerite in the veins started being produced.

It operated sporadically until 1937 when upgrades to the equipment allowed it to become the second-largest tungsten mine in the US for the year 1938.

From then on, the mine produced nearly continuously until 1957. Later attempts were made at reopening the mine for years after, but little came of them.

The mine throughout its history produced around 750,000 tons of ore.
