Shield volcano with its peak at 3070 m asl.

The collection area is located in the central part of Piton des Neiges (Cirque de Mafate, Cirque de Salazie, and Cirque de Cilaos).
Zeolitized (with complex zonation) oceanites.

The Piton des Neiges is a large, old and heavily eroded extinct volcano which forms the northwest two-thirds of Réunion Island. The lava flows of the younger, active Piton de la Fournaise volcano have intermingled with those from the Piton des Neiges volcano.
