An historic gold area referred to as "Hampton Group".

Hampton Plains was a term used from the early days of Coolgardie from 1892, for the area 10 kilometres south-east of Coolgardie. In modern times it is the area mainly west of the Coolgardie-Norseman Highway (Gala and Chatanooka Mines), although may also include the Barbara-Surprise Mine just east of the highway.

Hampton Plains Block 59 was used in 1896 to determine the area for the proposed town of Hampton, with connecting tramline to Coolgardie. In the late 1890's, the Italian Reward Mine immediately south of the modern Barbara-Surprise mine was referred as Block 50. In 1904 a rich find was made at the same location.

The term was used extensively by several exploration companies after World War Two, often referring to an area immediately south-west of the modern Barbara-Surprise gold mines.
