The ninetyeast Ridge is a long, linear crustal elevation rising about 2000 meters above the adjacent sea floor and striking more or less parallel to the 90Β° E meridian from south of Broken Ridge (~31Β°S) north to the Bay of Bengal (about 5600km). Believed to have been formed by the Kerguelen hot spot volcanism when the hot spot was located beneath the Indian plate during the Late Cretaceous and early Cenozoic.
