Sporadically worked quarry in Bergen granite.

Situation in 2013: Mining has now been dormant for several years and the quarry is visibly overgrowing, the lowest levels are flooded, and no significant mineral discoveries are known any more.

The Bergen granite massif is classified as part of the West Erzgebirge partial pluton and has an area of ​​approximately 29 km².
In the southwestern corner of this massif, the Streuberg quarry is probably the best outcrop; it is a great place to study the predominantly gray, medium to coarse-grained, sometimes porphyritic granite. It is not uncommon to find inclusions of foreign rock. On the upper levels, the immediate contact area of ​​the Bergen granite is exposed.

The mining of granite grit as a sand-like raw material has probably been going on here for a long time. The mining peaked shortly after the political change in the new federal states. The “construction boom” led to an increased need for building materials, which prompted the then operator, the Vogtländische Hartsteinwerke, to expand the mining area by several levels and to build a modern crushing plant.

The Streuberg quarry is known nationally among mineral collectors because of its uranium secondary mineral paragenesis. The environment counts as a type locality for the minerals bergenite and uranocircite.
