Located in Soconusco district, east of Chiapas, 6 km NNW of Santa Rosa claim.

Tierra-Calente region (Sierra Madre Occidentale), Taxco-Guanajuato Au/Ag province.

Massive sulfide (sphalerite, chalcopyrite, galena, Ag sulfosalts with minor quartz and baryte) VMS-type occurrences in greenschist facies metapelites (Tizapa series) : concordant lenses, with presence of synsedimentary bedding, in relation with hydrothermalized dacite dykes.
The metapelites are sericitized at the contact of the dykes.
Some highly hydrothermalized zones (actinolite, talc, chlorite) in the metapelites might be the exhalative ducts of the lenses.
The hydrothermal solutions are HT (400-500 °C) hypersaline brines (up to 67 wt % salinity, close to halite saturation), of volcanic origin.

Hosts rocks are epizonal (540°C-4kb to 470°C-2.5kb) chloritized biotite-greenschists, associated with black schists, rich in organic matter.

They show intercalations of volcanosedimentary tuffs and volcanites (andesites, dacites, basalts).

These regional metamorphism series contain numerous quartz segregations with inclusions of late complex carbonic solutions : H2O, CO2 (clathrates), CH4, N2 (decomposition of organic matter of black schists), with low salinity (2-8 wt % eq NaCl).

During 1979 mineral deposits were discovered in the Tizapa ravine. The construction of this mining unit began in 1993 with an initial installed capacity of 800 thousand tons per year of ground ore, jointly owned with Dowa and Sumitomo. Its construction was financed under very favorable conditions. The zinc concentrates produced by this unit are sent to Japan for treatment.

After successive capacity expansions, it broke production, milling and treatment records for 4 consecutive years from 2012 to 2015. Tizapa is one of the four most important zinc mines in Mexico.
