An ancient mine originally worked for tin, the Great St George Mine was first mentioned in 1589. Mining for copper in the area was occurring in the late 18th century; between 1800-04, Great St George Mine raised 1,507 tons of copper ore (149 tons copper metal), selling for Β£14,559 (period value). However, by 1812, the mine was returning small amounts of ore.
Note on the mineral list: The reference to atacamite at Perran St George is from Kingsbury. Given the doubts about the provenance of other Kingsbury specimens, this occurrence must be considered highly doubtful as well.
