The township of Mount Barker.
The township was surveyed in 1839 by Duncan McFarlane, and was named after Mount Barker Summit.
Mount Barker summit was named in 1834 by Captain Charles Sturt, in honor of Captain Collet Barker, who discovered the Mount Barker Summit in 1831. Captain Charles Sturt had spotted the peak earlier in 1830, however, he had mistaken it for the already surveyed Mount Lofty. Captain Collet Barker corrected this mistake later in 1831, thus records show him as the official discoverer.
Mount Barker is now the largest township in the Southern Mount Lofty Ranges
Situated 33km south-east, from the states capital Adelaide.
The area also contains numerous quartzite, sandstone and marble quarries, most of which have not been used for collecting. For this reason they have been left out of the listings for the moment.
