Late Triassic mafic-ultramafic complex, intruded on the south side of the east-west trending Hongshila-Damiao deep fault into Archean metamorphic rocks in the northern margin of the North China Craton. The complex is concentrically zoned: a chromite-bearing core of serpentinized dunite is subsequently surrounded by wehrlite, diopside pyroxenite and minor amphibolite in its rim. The chromite bodies consist of veinlets and disseminations, rarely of masses. The ore minerals grade into the host rock.


Notes:
(1) In earlier Chinese references on platinum group minerals, this locality was referred to as "Gao District", derived from the first syllable of "Gaositai", and later as "Gaotai village". The latter however does not appear to exist.
(2) The grid reference is centered on the opencast workings in the western part of the deposit.
