A Fe occurrence/mine located 2000 feet W of the crossroads of S768 and S672 (800 feet S on 768 from the junction of W672 on the NW side of the road extending NW into woods for about 380 feet and extending NE-SW for ΒΌ mile, including on prospect NE of 672), at Pittsfield, on private land. Discovered in 1825. Operated by Margaret Milam. Produced during the period 1825-1900.

Mineralization is an Fe deposit hosted in metamorphosed manganoan marble. The ore body forms lenses that strike N20W and dip 13SW. The anomalous strike and dip N30W/13SW compared to the NE trending, steeply dipping (75SE) "host" rocks suggests very thin outliers of unconformably alloctonous slivers of Lynchburg on the Fork Mountain Formation. All openings show sub-horizontal bedding. The 2 large pits showed saprolitic iron formation at surface to about one meter, nearly horizontal up to 13 degrees SW. The ore zones are said to be repeated. Local rocks include Ridgeley Sandstone, Helderberg and Cayugan Groups.

Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of 3 open shafts to depths of 23, 30 and 50 feet. One shaft is said to be 180 feet deep and is now partially caved. There is one open adit plus 2 others by route 768. There are also 3 pits 25-30 feet across and 20 to 30 feet deep, plus numerous small pits and trenches.
