The main deposit was quarried in open pit mines and deep trenches strike NE-SW.
The deposit consists into dolomitic skarn veins (exoskarn) with magnetite-ludwigite ores on carbonatic matrix (dolomite-magnesite). Minor nickel secondary minerals (garnierite, pimelite) have been reported filling joint faces as tiny crusts within highly weathered peridotite horizons (serpentinite, lizardite)along vertical faults. Brucite formation is also recognized.
The deposit is located in low angle shear zones following the contact zone between granoblastic dolomitic marble (Las Nieves Unit Triassic), overthrusted by alpine serpentinites (Reales Unit) and minor granulitic gneiss to the northeast side of the site. Magnetite crystals up to 2cm have been collected on ludwigite matrix.
