The Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria is a provincial-level municipality created on January 31, 2016, which replaces the former Province of Reggio Calabria.
Can be basically divided into the 3 large geological areas, Aspromonte Massif which is the largest whose buttresses reach the sea on the West coast, the great Ionian coastal strip to the East with prevalent sedimentary deposits, and Serre Massif to the North shared in part with the province of Catanzaro and the province of Vibo Valentia.
Finally, an area with plioquaternary deposits is, on the West coast, the one that goes from the North of Palmi to the Southern limit of the Province of Vibo Valentia in the Nicotera area where the metarmorphites of Monte Poro begin.
