Large outcrop of Triassic gypsum (anhydrite in depth) and cargneules around the northern part of Lac du Mont-Cenis forming a prominent hillock on its north-east shore. The hillock, already described by De Saussure (1796), became less prominent with the construction of the Mont-Cenis artificial reservoir or Lac du Mont-Cenis, that in different years (1912, 1920-24 and 1963-68) enlarged the already existing homonymous lake. The water level (once at 1921 m) can reach its highest value at 1971 m, but it seasonally varies covering and uncovering some areas of the hillock.

The Triassic evaporites of the hillock tipically embeds boudins of dolostone, greenish schists (metapelites) and rare actinolite schist. The metapelite boudins contains "metamorphic veins", mainly composed of albite and iron-bearing dolomite, with accessory pyrite, hematite, calcite, clinochlore, titanite (sometimes corroded and substituted by Ti oxides) and epidote (whose products of destabilisation are albite, clinochlore, muscovite and hematite), in which are present narrow fissures hosting a Ti-Th-U-REE mineralisation (De Ascenção Guedes et al., 2008; De Ascenção Guedes, 2013).
