The central northern part of the alkaline complex is peridotite, outwards changing to ijolites-jacupirangites. The southern central part is a carbonatite, surrounded by jacupirangites. The carbonatite is an almost vertical subvolcanic plug.

Apart from the carbonatite components calcite and dolomite, the complex also contains apatite, magnetite, olivine, phlogopite and iron sulphides as the most conspicuous species.
The apatite, specifically both a residual deposit on top of the carbonatite and primary ore, is mined since 1970 in an open pit for phosphate. The pit is also used for cement production.
