About Sapphirine Supergroup
Name:
Named after the first mineral of the Sapphirine Supergroup to be discovered, sapphirine.
According to the new IMA group nomenclature (Mills et al., 2009), this supergroup is subdivided into the Sapphirine Group, Aenigmatite Group and Rhönite Group.
Earlier it was subdivided by Grew et al. (2008) into the 'Sapphirine Subgroup', 'Aenigmatite Subgroup' and 'Rhönite Subgroup'.
Surinamite is an unassigned member of this supergroup.
