Discovered in 1903, it comprises claim block R.L.404 which includes numerous veins many of which outcropped at surface. Shut down in the late 1960's with some exploration taking place in the 1970's. Total production up to the end of 1950 was 91,800,000 oz. Ag and 5,630,000lbs. of Cobalt
The area is now a tourist site. The property was as of 2009 leased by Blackstone Development Inc. The lease has expired and the claim has reverted back to Agnico-Eagle Mines.

Note: the coordinates given are for the high-grade mill site which is approximately the centre of the 404 claim,

Description: The reference cited makes no mention of the existence of nickel skutterudite. There are no modern confirmed samples of nickel skutterudite from the Cobalt-Gowganda camp. Chloanthite was at one time thought to be common in the camp but it was later discovered by microprobe that earler chemical analysis where of impure samples contaminated by nickel arsenides.
