Androy refers today to the area and the administrative region west of the river Mandrare and east of the Manambovo river.
The name "l'Androy Mandraréen" is used on old maps and in elder, mostly French mineralogical literature as a designation on the area east of the Mandrare river; this area belongs today to the Amboasary District in Anosy region and must not be confused with the "Androy Region".
