Located in the southern Urals in the Chelyabinsk Oblast on the administrative territory of Miass in Chebarkulsky and Argayashsky districts.

NOTE: Most of the Ilmensky Mountains are inside the Ilmen Nature Reserve and all mining activities in this reserve are prohibited.
