Baccu Locci is the type locality for the selenites orlandiite and sarrabusite. The mineral sarrabusite, named after the sub-region Sarrabus-Gerrei in which the mine is located, was approved by the IMA-CNMMN in 1997 (IMA1997-046a) and mentioned without a complete description in the paper on the new mineral orlandiite (Campostrini et al., 1999). Later, it was indicated as UM 1999-29-SeO:ClCuHPb. The name sarrabusite appeared on the IMA List of Minerals for the first time in 2011, and the structure was solved by Gemmi et al. (2012).

The ore in the section of the abandoned Pb-As mine of Baccu Locci, where several Se-bearing secondary minerals had been recovered, consists predominantly of galena, sphalerite, tennantite, and minor sulfide and sulfarsenides; there are also some minerals such as wittichenite, cupropavonite, pearceite, bismuthinite, native Bi, greenockite, idaite, cubanite, mackinawite, magnetite (included by sphalerite) and gersdorffite, which characterise the ore assemblage. According to Venerandi Pirri (2002), galena is the main selenium-bearing mineral (usually up to 1.17 wt.%, and sometimes even up to 13.61 wt.% Se). Only a single nodule (1 cm in diameter) consisting of a solid solution of clausthalite and galena in almost equal proportions (PbS = 57 mol.%) has been detected by Campostrini et al. (1999). Furthermore, not negligible amounts of Se have also detected in sphalerite, greenockite, cupropavonite, wittichenite, and chalcopyrite. Minor amounts of Se are sometimes present in pyrite, whereas tennantite, pearceite, arsenopyrite, and gersdorffite are always Se-free.
