Neuenberg first vein discovery dates back to the middle XVIth century (1549). Thereafter an intensive mining exploitation on both sides of the Neuenberg mountain started.
7 veins were found, listed here in order from Neuenberg mountain upstream to downstream position, and not after discovery date:
Sankt-Johann Cu-Ag vein (Saint-Jean),
Sankt-Jacob Cu-As-Ag vein (Saint Jacques),
Sankt-wilhelm Cu-Ag vein (Saint Guillaume),
Sankt-Ludwig-Eisenhur Cu-Pb-Zn-Ag vein (Saint Louis-Eisenthür),
Haus Rappolstein Zn-Ag vein (old name of Ribeaupierre Lords),
Chrétien Co-Cu-Ag vein,
Furtenstollen Zn-Pb vein.

Picot & sainfeld (1973) then Fluck (1975-1978) has distinguished six paragenesis veins phases well expressed at Neuenberg.
Paragenesis:
0: calcite, hematite and chalcedonian quartz.
1: calcite, grey-copper ore quartz, chalcopyrite.
2: native arsenic & arsenides.
3: galena, grey-copper ore, sphalerite.
4: fluorite, baryte.
5: carbonates phase with silver ore.

As this locality lies in the Sainte Marie-aux-Mines district, the place is protected by a archaeological mining district status and all collecting is prohibited.

Description: 3 types of native arsenic crystallization were determined: 1. concretionary arsenic. 2. bacillary arsenic. 3. Arsenic single crystals. The arsenolamprite signaled (by BREITHAUPT) was not found yet, it is probably doubtful. Native arsenic was abundant at Sanct Jacob vein and Gabe Gottes mine was the first mine worked only for metal arsenic up to 1940. In other veins of Neuenberg mountain arsenic is not as abundant.

Description: The macnearite samples come from crosscut "Tiefstollen" in a part of gallery which has served for the Gabe-Gottes and Saint-Jacques mines arsenic ore storage. The minerals associated with macnearite are picropharmacolite, pharmacolite, guérinite and haidingerite. The formation of this mineral is certainly due to the arsenic acid reaction with the carbonate gangue mineral. The presence of sodium must be linked to the abundance of mirabilite that lines the walls of this gallery (WEIL, 1937).
