Hastings County is world-famous for its varied mineralogy and mineral collecting potential. An important part of the region's economy derives from mineralogical tourism.

Hastings County is divided into towns, townships, municipalities, two separated municipalities, and a territory. The divisions are:

Town of Bancroft,
Town of Deseronto,
Municipality of Centre Hastings,
Municipality of Hastings Highlands,
Municipality of Tweed,
Municipality (township) of Marmora and Lake,
Township of Carlow/Mayo,
Township of Faraday,
Township of Limerick,
Township of Madoc,
Township of Stirling-Rawdon,
Township of Tudor and Cashel,
Township of Tyendinaga,
Township of Wollaston, and
Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory (a First Nation Reserve).

Two cities, Belleville and Quinte West, are located in Hastings County but have their own government separate from Hastings County government.

Description: Specimens exhibit a variety of habits including bowtie twins (rare, 5mm the largest we have found). Specimens are usually etched out of the matrix with acid but the odd good matrix piece can be found. Largest single crystals found by us in 1994 are 25mm x10mm. Gold is occasionally found on the arsenopyrite crystals. This locality is now posted and the Ontario Provincial Police do check out parked vehicles! It is also rife with poison ivy.

Description: Uranophane occurs as fine crystal clusters. Uranophane is a good collectors mineral and is quite profitable as a specimen. Masson and Gordon say: Some large pegmatites have vuggy cores containing excellent crystals of minerals such as calcite with gypsum, pyrite, goethite, limonite/hematite, uranophane, fluorite and chalcopyrite.
