Liège (French: [ljɛʒ]; Walloon: Lîdje [liːtʃ]; Dutch: Luik [lœyk]; German: Lüttich [ˈlʏtɪç]) is the easternmost province of Wallonia and Belgium.

Liège Province is the only Belgian province that has borders with three countries. It borders (clockwise from the north) the Dutch province of Limburg, the German states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate, Clervaux (canton) in Luxembourg, the Belgian Walloon (French-speaking) provinces of Luxembourg, Namur and Walloon Brabant and the Belgian Flemish (Dutch-speaking) provinces of Flemish Brabant and Limburg.

Part of the easternmost area of the province, bordering Germany, is the German-speaking region of Eupen-Malmedy, which became part of Belgium in the aftermath of World War I.

The capital and the largest city of the province is the city of the same name, Liège.

Colour: light grey
Description: Inclusions in joséite-B as lamellae of up to 70µm. The highly reflective light grey lamellae show evident anisotropy in greenish grey to yellowish-grey under the polarized reflection microscope. The identification of the mineral is also based on its chemical analysis by electronic microprobe which leads to (Pb0.76Bi0.24)Bi2.04Te1.99(S1.90Se0.07), with lower contents in Sb (0,14%), Cd, Zn (0,04%) and Fe (0,02%) as well.

Description: Mélon et al. (1976): "In the collections of the University of Liège, a specimen originating from the Bleiberg and described by Buttgenbach (1921) carries the name of "voltzine". The mineral is in the form of small botryoidal globules covering quartz crystals. Light yellowish brown, these globules, with a density of 3.79, scratching fluorite, show a concentric texture with accumulation of small golden yellow scales in very weakly birefringent thin scales. They fall apart in the closed tube and are soluble with effervescence in hydrochloric acid. The X-ray study, recently done by Fransolet, reveals a diffuse powder diagram; the size of the rays does not permit precise measurements, but the distances found are close enough to those of the powder diagram of sphalerite. Voltzite: 3.08 2.64 1.91 1.61 1.34 1.23 Å Sphalerite: 3.12 2.70 1.91 1.63 1.35 1.24 Å The look of the diagram and the similarity with sphalerite recall the observations of Fournet (1833) and Frondel (1967) on voltzites from Sterling Hill (New Jersey) and from Roisiers (Puy-de-Dôme). These two authors have shown, on the other hand, that voltzite is just a mixture of sphalerite with an organometallic compound of zinc, resulting from the precipitation of a gel."
