The highest range of the Alps east of the Brenner Pass; it includes the highest mountains in Austria. The range is part of the Central Eastern Alps. The Hohe Tauern are located in the Austrian states of Salzburg, Carinthia, and Tyrol - with a small part in the Italian Province of Bolzano (Bozen).
